Satellite image of Izmir bay, Turkey

Image of the month: Satellite image of Izmir bay, Turkey, from PlanetSAT 15 L8 basemap processed with fresh Landsat 8 imagery

Second largest port of Turkey (after Istanbul), the city of Izmir extends at the head of a long bay on the shore of the Aegean Sea. Located between sea and hills, the metropolitan area has gradually expanded over the hills and valleys, while reclaiming land from the sea. The satellite image shows the city footprint on the western side that highly contrasts with the blue-green colour of the sea.

This satellite image of Izmir bay comes from PlanetSAT 15 L8 basemap with 15m resolution. Source data are exclusively fresh and cloudless Landsat 8 satellite images, processed in natural colours.

PlanetSAT 15 L8 imagery basemap covers today about 55 million sq km, i.e. 40% of the Earth’s land mass (excl. Antarctica)!  Just check out countries and continents available on PlanetSAT 15 L8 webpage.
