Project Overview

Arte show on geopolitics revamped with new satellite maps and elevation data

The Franco-German Arte channel presents a revamped version of the show “With open maps”. Initially created in 1990 and presented by the geographer and geo-politician Jean-Christophe Victor, the show focuses on geopolitical and geographic issues, using maps as visual support.

There are many new features in the show: new design, new geographic animations, new presenter with the journalist Emilie Aubry, and new satellite maps and elevation data thanks to a partnership between Arte and PlanetObserver.

Check out this great flyover animation created with PlanetSAT Global satellite images and PlanetDEM 30 elevation data. We take you to Iran with a fly over the country and down to Mount Damavand, the highest peak in the country and in the Middle East, located close to the Caspian Sea.

PlanetObserver satellite maps are combined with detailed cartographic information, such as borders and roads, and very rich graphics. With all those elements put together, the maps are turned into great geopolitical and historical tools.
